New this year for 8th grade is a 3D Art elective. This semester long course includes extensive clay work, large scale cardboard sculptures, and work with wire.
This class focuses soley on sculpture. For students who are used to two dimensional drawing and painting, it presents a challenge. I can't wait to see what students create, and the growth that happens when they create art in a different way.
ALTERED BOOK PROJECT
I can tell the plot of a story visually using additive and subtractive techniques and a book.
Students learned different techniques for working with paper, then created a sculpture using old books.
LEARNING TARGET: I CAN CREATE A SCULPTURE THAT REPRESENTS ME INTERNALLY AND EXTERNALLY.
For the first project, students learned about Faberge Eggs, ornate sculptures that had a surprise inside. We connected these to the recent pokeball craze, and challenged students to create sculptures that could be interacted with in some way. We also talked about external and internal qualities. What story can you tell about yourself through your Art? Who are you and how can you show it?
POP ART SCULPTURE
